Currently, only two states - California and Nevada - require legal document assistant (LDA) bonds. LDA bonds must be for $25,000. LDA bonds in California are for two-year terms and are a prerequisite to register as a California LDA. The California LDA surety bond must be filed in the county where you prepare and file any legal docs.
